Markham Village ConservancyThe Conservancy was formed to address the threat to the Markham Village Train Station. A group of concerned citizens got together to save it from demolition. Plans were made, funds were raised, and politicians persuaded. The culmination of this effort came about in September 2001 when the Markham Train Station officially re-opened. For more information on the Conservancy, its plans and photos, click here.
Vinegar Hill RatepayersThe area serviced by the Vinegar Hill Ratepayers includes the new townhouse complex known as Rougehaven, just off Markham Road north of Highway 407, Rouge Street and all the streets that run off it, Main Street Markham South, Princess Street, and Fisher Court. The role of our association is generally to provide a means for residents to pass their concerns and views about our community onto the Town, and for the councillors and Town to provide information back to the residents. A lot of new development has occurred in our community in the last few years and major construction is still to take place on Rouge Street. The association has been active in addressing issues such as the stop lights at the corner of James Scott/Princess and Markham Road, the lighting on Highway 407, beautification and clean up of the area. A newsletter is published twice a year to keep the residents informed of the association's activities. For more information, contact: Dixie Grosz at 904-294-7738.
Old Markham Village RatepayersFounded in the early 1990s, the Old Markham Village Ratepayers (OMVR) was formed to represent residents of the Old Markham Village in the preparation of a document to guide planning decisions for the community (OPA 108). As an active participant in the public review process for the development of this plan, and the creation of the Village's Heritage Conservation District, the OMVR continues to advance the concerns of residents before Council and its various Committees. Members of the OMVR are actively involved in the Markham Main Street Committee, the Markham Village Conservancy and several committees addressing traffic issues in the Town. The Executive of the OMVR work closely with several neighbourhood groups within the Old Village in responding to land use change and related issues, and in bringing resident concerns to the attention of public decision makers. Meets every 4-6 weeks or more often as needed. President: Ron Keeble, 471-4869

Markham Village Lower Eastside InitiativeA task force of Markham Village residents has formed to address the needs of the 150 year old residential community on the Lower Eastside of Markham Village. The committee's primary task is to address safety in the area, which has rapidly deteriorated over the past year, due to traffic. Complementary traffic plans are currently being assembled. If you are interested in assisting the committee, please leave a message from 9am to 5pm at 905-471-2605. Scott Brown, 471-2605 Rouge Fairways Residents AssociationLocated just south of the 407 and east of Markham Road, the Residents Association's aim is to improve the neighbourhood by enhancing the real estate and creating a sale environment for their neighbours. They also hold many social events throughout the year. For more information, contact Glenn Schaeffer at 905-472-0743. |
